This is my favorite Bond movie, no doubts about it. From start to finish a great romp. To answer Seth, the plan was to deploy poison gas to kill all of the troops so that Goldfinger and the Chinese troops could enter the base with the dirty nuclear weapon and ruin the gold there. That is why they were able to get into the base. Pussy Galore warned the CIA and switched the gas out for something harmless, so the US Army was able to help Bond out and stop the bomb from destroying the US's Gold stash.
This movie also has my favorite scene in any film ever. When James is recovering at the Spa in Miami, Felix Leiter comes up to him to reveal his next mission. At the time, Bond is being massaged by Dink, a busty blonde (best names ever in this movie, Dink, come on). The conversation goes something like this.
Bond: "Felix! What a surprise! Felix, say hello to Dink, Dink, say good bye to Felix" *Bond slaps Dink on the Ass* "Man Talk."
Honestly the most manly and awesome line of dialogue ever. Closely followed by Bond's post-coital "Well, I'm glad I ran into you" to Tiffany Case in Diamonds Are Forever.
