A comparison between Super Mario 3D Land and New Super Mario Bros. Wii (which you actually mean based on the context of later posts) wouldn't be exactly the same, because one game is a 3D platformer and the other one a 2D platformer. Historically the latter sells about twice as many units as the former on average, so significantly better legs would be a given for a 2D game if it released close to a 3D game (like how NSMBW walked all over Super Mario Galaxy 2).

But anyway, currently SM3DL sells more copies than NSMBW each and every week which is the reverse situation of Golden Abyss vs. Drake's Deception, so similar points cannot be made.

Except NSMBWii is old and UC3 just came out a few months ago. 

I know that. When I said "anyway", I meant regardless of all differences and flaws between the two comparisons, SM3DL vs. NSMBW shows the opposite of GA vs. DD, so even by ignoring all these flaws, similar points like Chark suggested could not be made for both cases.

Let's not forget their are 10x as many 3DS's out there right now...could be a factor, but what do I know.

You can't compare SMB3DL with U:GA. That's completely unfair.

SMB3DL had no competition at all and U:GA is released alongside with some other great games.
