I think it's Nintendo spreading these rumors just to lead Sony and Microsoft into a false sense of security. :P
"Oh, WiiU isn't even as powerful as our current HD consoles? No need then to prepare for any E3 reveals and we can go modest with our NeXtBox/PS4 specs!"
