Sony can do a few things, but it certainly seems like Nintendo have already beaten Sony to it. The most important would have to be securing the latest in the ridiculously-big in Japan Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter 4. This game alone should keep the 3DS afloat for a good 12 months in Japan, and if the Vita could get an exclusive game in the series, even a spin-off or port, then it could revitalize sales in Japan. .

This isn't automatically the case: the 360 has seen several Monster Hunter ports, and it has done the system little good. A more contemporaneous port, or a port with added features, would do much better.

In terms of the west, more support should be made from 3rd party developers like EA/RockStar/etc, you cant just expect Sony to be releasing million seller IPs like Nintendo does.

What, in the roughly 20 year history of modern handheld gaming, makes you believe that Westerns third parties are interested in devoting their big games to handhelds?

Vita just needs the big software to come out.. Gta, call of duty, gran turismo, final fantasy, metal gear solid etc. if combined with a price cut the vita WILL match the 3ds in weekly sales. Everyone was laughing at the 3ds when it was in the same situation as the vita is currently in and they both had the same problems. Lack of killer software and a high price point.

The difference, as I see it, is that we knew of many big 3DS games even before the system's launch, and more announcements came in at a fairly steady pace. Mario, Mario Kart, etc. were all announced long in advance. I don't think the same is true of Vita: most of the games you outline above are, to the best of my knowledge, merely hypothetical at this point.
