If 2012 will be the best year for the 3DS ever, that's going to be pretty sad. I'd like to think that 2013 will be when it's really getting good and 2014 will top it. And then in 2015, when the PSV's corpse is carried to the console graveyard, the 3DS will have its greatest year ever.

It would be pretty sad. This year will most likely be runner up for best year, next year will most likely take the pie. I think the 3rd year for the DS is when we saw the best sales it had ever had. True, all those games are coming out but it takes some time for the market to be totally aware of those shiny new games. Mario Kart DS had it's best year in 2008, almost three years after it was released.

The DS didn't really see its best sales in a single year. It saw 29.5 million in 2007, then 29.6 million in 2008, and 27.6 million in 2009. It had no proper peak year like the Wii and Ps2 had. In other words, the DS saw its peak sales in a tie between the 3rd, 4th and 5th year.
I personally think that following the DS curve is going to be incredibly hard for the 3DS, though, and that a Wii type of sales is far more likely (meaning sales increasing up to third year on the market, then gradually decreasing again).

This was about the quality of the games lineup, not the amount of hardware sales. I don't blame you, but NintendoPie for taking it into another direction.
Just pointing this out for people who might not have figured it out.

I'm aware of that. I planned to write a bit about the games line-up too, but realised I had no real clue about it, so I just didn't say anything.
You could probably argue that 2007 (its third year) was the DS' worst year for games. It had Phantom Hourglass and Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, but really nothing else.
