You are wrong. They are all Super Mario games. As far as I understand your reasoning you consider a Mario game fake if; they are NOT in 2D - would I be correct then?
Well, the original 2D Mario games were called Super Mario Bros. - Bros being the key word here. You are too concerned with the prefix "Super" when you totally disregard the suffix "Brothers". I would call the 2D Marios for the (Super) Brothers-series, as it's the one thing that connects all the "true" Mario games, and not the word "Super" since the original SMB actually is a sequal to the game "Mario Bros". Thus, Mario Bros is the first true Mario game (Donkey Kong excluded since Mario is called Jumpman in that one), and in that game you find "Bros" and not "Super" - therefore a Super Mario game isn't fake unless it's got the word "Bros" in it.
One could argue that the word "Super" implies the use of power ups as well.
So, in other words: you're wrong.
Hope that was understandable...

Your initial assumption is wrong, this is what Super Mario is all about.

So the only recquirment is that Mario eats a mushrum to grow bigger? I would still argue that it's the suffix of "Brothers" that matters since it was Mario Bros. that introduced Mario and Luigi by their full names and most of their abilities to the world.
