I'm not supposed to have 80+ lives unless I keep doing a level over and over again for the coins to 1up.

But let's suppose it was, then Super Mario World would be a fake Super Mario game as well, because it has plenty of levels where you can gain five or more 1-UPs. No need to replay levels to reach 99 lives. I am also able to finish Super Mario Bros. 3 with 80+ lives, so that game would be fake as well.

The bottom line is that you need to cut down on your consumption of weed.

And what's the point of 99 lives in a game with endless continues, anyway. People still don't realize green mushroom's purpose is to make you feel good and not to give you an extra life -  that sound is music to my ears
