Yes, on a superficial level body weight is all about caloric intake vs caloric expenditure. I'm glad we can boil this incredibly pervasive and complex problem down to a simple mathematical equation, that somehow supports your argument that the poor have no initiative.

There's nothing superficial about it. Body weight is a function of just that, and no amount of navel gazing and none of your paranoiac fantasies about sinister corporations will ever change metabolic science. If people have access to more and cheaper food than they did in the Olden Tymes when they had a harder time meeting their daily recommended calories but at least we weren't plagued by the likes of McDonald's, they will tend to be fatter. We do, and we are.

That there isn't cheap healthy food available is just incredibly false. Even dollar stores sell all kinds of healthy food. You can get salmon primavera. FOR A DOLLAR. That people don't avail themselves of it and prefer to guzzle high fructose corn syrup is another matter, but as we (or at least I) already know, fat people typically lack the initiative to better themselves.
