I would argue that it is wholly unacceptable for a government to poke, prod, manhandle, or touch people at the airport, treating everyone like a suspected terrorist.  Our system of law says "innocent until proven guilty", not "guilty until proven innocent".  If we allow this kind of authoritarianism to happen right before our eyes, we no longer live in a free society.  The government cannot protect people from themselves.  None of these safety measures have done anything to protect us at airports, except to scare people into submission.
