Was the Game Gear a great or bad handheld?

Great concept, excellent presentation, but poor execution. Battery life was terrible and that meant it was hardly truly "portable". If you had an AC adapter or a car adapter, then it was "portable", but still needed to be tethered to something.

But otherwise, the Gameboy was king by far. Those batteries lasted forever. And Gameboy had a ton more games.

It's a shame there wasn't something in-between at the time.
