Two things.

1) Lenny is drinking out of a water bottle. Recovering alcoholics are not offended by water, in fact they often drink it.

2) Your slippery slope argument is without base as there is no indication that there is any need for the rules to become stricter than they now are.

Since the bottle is not labelled it could be misconstrued at a glance as some one drinking heavily , as  to the other there was no indication that the rules on avatars needed changing until someone made a thread , I think Rol's suggestion that an avatar blocking tool be implemented is the best way forward , as it allows freedom of expression and also makes sure those people who don't want to see certain avatars don't have to.
