Here's a simpler solution to satisfy the minority who doesn't want to have NSFW avatars displayed (or rather what they perceive to be NSFW): Implement an option to not show avatars, just like there is already one for signatures. That is all.

That would require someone to actually fix the site, something that hasn't happened for at least 9 months under the promise that the site is going to upgrade sometime TBD (which keeps getting pushed back, and back, and back)
