I think Hawken looks more interesting, this looks rather bland.

Hawken is a Mech FPS as declared by those who make it, this is a Mech simulator in Mechwarrior style. I'm curious to see which one will have the upper hand in player numbers. Both should do well I think.

I'd think the answer would be Hawken unless it's horrible.

Mech Simulator has always been a pretty niche genre.

Or to put it more percisely... either way it'll probably be Hawken to start (unless awful) Then Mechwarrior 2-3 years down the line.

Since while Niche, there aren't going to be many more mech simulator MMOs.

Not that MWO or Hawken are actually MMOs but there is also

And there a bunch of older MMOs as well (they kinda suck)

and the turnbassed Mechwarrior Tactics

The mechwarrior series was actually quite popular back in the day and I think name recognition will help it a lot. Mechwarrior 2 and the add-ons sales totaled $70 million which was pretty huge considering most of the sales were at a budget price http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/1999/jan99/fasapr.mspx. It also has a very active fan community that will help spread word of mouth. I think both games will do very well as long as the gameplay is there.
