Actually, there are no right or wrong since different people have different definitions of right and wrong. Same goes for good/evil, rich/poor and everything else.
The thing is though that most people (as seen in the poll) define this specific "choice" of yours as wrong. There really is no reason for you to care about that however, but if you do then you'll obviously act different next time the same thing happens.
But yeah, like I said: No matter what you choose I can't blame you.
