I could see Microsoft pushing the launch of the 720 forward as much as possible to stop Nintendo from getting a head start. Sony, on the other hand... not really. The PS4 will be released late 2013 and I'd be glad if the European launch doesn't slip into early 2014 to be honest.
I wonder if any of the two is actually ready to enter next generation. If we see lots of big new Xbox360 games at e3 and still get confirmation of a 720 launch in early 2013 we can safely conclude that Microsoft will somewhat rush the launch to compete with Nintendo. That's exactly what I expect Microsoft to do.
