Yes, I would also say you are wrong and well deserving of the shame you felt while doing it.
I don't know how old you are, but you described yourself as a young/healthy male, so there's no reason you shouldn't have given up your seat to an old lady. Tired isn't an excuse, and neither is that you have a 40 minute ride...how do you think an old lady felt standing for 40 minutes?
