Yeah, people seem to have forgotten this fairly quickly, but the PS2 had hardware issues on par with the RROD on the 360. I had to purchase 3 PS2s myself. The PS3 on the other hand is arguably the best piece of hardware from a reliability standpoint this generation. The Wii is probably pretty close too, but either way it doesn't have the major issues the PS2 did. I think that's one of its greatest strengths. I just wish they had kept backwards compatability, because a PS3 with backwards compatability was a reliable PS2! |
Oh, I didn't. I had to call Sony and beg for them to repair it. They were cold at first "This repair would normally cost $100 plus shipping ..." but they backtracked ... "but we will waive that fee." The thing is ... there weren't Web sites like this, or consumerist.com or even digg.com in full effect. Yeah, Sony had the disk read error which was as bad as the RROD. Back then, though, the media didn't care about a video game console with problems. It's funny how folks are praising the same company that last time around had the unreliable console.
Great point, Naznatips!
