Sony believes PS3 could catch Xbox 360 this summer

Oh how the times change and the fickle world of gaming shifts. Sony appear to be looking to press home their recent PS3 gains, SCEE President David Reeves stating boldly that by the end of the summer the PS3 will have 'overtaken' the Xbox 360 in Europe.

Chatting with trade mag MCV, Reeves revealed that the PS3 was already outselling Microsoft's machine in France, Spain, Germany and Italy. Over a million sales in December across Europe also boosted the system's position. The PSP and PS2 each broke the million milestone for the month, as well.

"In December, we sold just over a million PlayStation 3s during the month. That's across all PAL territories and that's a sell-through figure," reeves beamed. "About 20-22 per cent of that figure was sold in the UK alone. We're very happy with the performance of the PS3 in the UK".

Reeves also said that the PS3 was outselling the Xbox 360 by "three-to-one" in the last week.
