Battery life and things like that are the responsibilities of the gamer but someone walking between the television and the controller is something that may not be avoided or may harm the player but are NOT the fault of the player (running out of batteries is a players responsibility but someone NOT seeing where they are walking and interfering with a players performance is beyond player control... common sense here). If the sensor bar falls for some weird reason, is that the players fault? No (MLG sets up all systems and the like so it is literally NOT the players responsibility). So with that said, the challenge of officiating matches using IR due to freak accidents is extremely picky and fragile. The best case is to try avoiding such incidents and this is why dual analog is still so widely accepted.
MLG = Major League Gaming.
