Just want to quickly say MLG does not want IR controls because they are a new challenge to officiate. Not because of popular demand. IR can be violated easily by any object intruding the space between it and the receptor. If someone or thing blocks thee IR path, do we restart? If the sensor bar falls, do we restart the whole match? Controllers do not have these issues so that is the way they decided to go with it.

Also, Wii games are not allowed to be streamed by MLG so that is why most Wii games are ignored. No stream means no revenue. This was brought up with Smash Bros. Brawl last year... even if they sold out each venue, there was very little money to be made because there was no stream. That is why the game is not returning.

MLG = some kind of gaming league?

Also, what happens if the batteries on your controller run out, does the game restart then? Surely things like that are the responsibility of the gamer... my sensor bar is blu-tacked to my TV for example.

MLG = Major League Gaming.

Another big issue with using IR controls for MLG is the ease as which you can introduce IR interference.  It's simply too easy interfere with someones game.
