Origin does make money - It works exactly like Steam just for EA Games.
Its of course hard to launch something so similar but it works - And people get nice stuff for their games.

People are just afraid of Digital Only Sales and all that Online Pass,DLC and whatever stuff.
But guess what?Its the future - The % of Digital Sales are rising every year,even on console.It will "soon" be standard and it works.
