What would you want Nintendo to make better with an eventual 3DS upgrade?

No, they shouldn't get rid of it. It's tradition, it needs to be there.

The Nintendo 64 and Gamecube didn't have a Select button and look how that turned out.

Well the Wii didn't have one either, and that seemed to have done alright. It even got a real Mario game.
