Well, what you find tedious I find challenging and addictive. The original arcade Donkey Kong appeals to me in the same was as I think golf appeals to golfers. It's simple and challenging, but rewarding and no matter how good you get there's always room to improve. DK Country on the other hand I just don't "get". I love platformers like Mario, Sonic, Castlevania, Mega Man, etc. but compared to those classics DK Country feels slow and plodding. Collecting bananas should be as fun as collecting Sonic's rings, but I find myself skipping the former and obsessively hording the latter. It's just not for me. |
UHHHHHH.... gee, maybe that's because they each constitute two entirely different gameplay functions?!?
The rings in Sonic games are basically health and are an absolute necessity for survival in such a fast paced game, because without them it's 1-hit and you're dead. The bananas in DKC serve the exact same purpose as coins do in every single Mario game... get a free life for every 100 you collect. That's it. Do you have a problem with collecting coins in Mario games as well?
I don't have a problem with you enjoying the classic DK games while not really feeling the DKC SNES games, but what I simply can't understand is your reasoning why the DKC games are so inferior to other platformers.... DKC is slow and plodding compared to CASTLEVANIA???
As John Mcenroe would say... you cannot be serious!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
