I think multi-platform (ie 3rd party) games did make a difference for the GC, even though it was still lacking compared to it's 2 competitors.

Just think if you bought a N64 after a SNES and you didn't even get a sequel to Street Fighter 2 (which sold 6.3 million copies and was best selling 3rd party game of the generation.)  It would be a major disappointment losing all the franchisees it did with the N64. At least the GC started getting back some multi-platform games.
