but that's just it, the modern stuff IS the story.  yeah, the ancient stuff is more visually appealing, but it's the plot that spans across time and space that makes it such a deep and engrossing story.  Ezio's story is a great plot in and of itself, but the fact that he's tied to Altair, this new hero, and dozens of others throughout history thanks to Desmond is what gives this game such a wide-ranging, poignant plot. 

I see what you mean, it is interesting. I just happened to not like it that much. Maybe it was going from the awesome architecture of the Old Times to the "new", boring, and stale architecture of the "Modern" Times? I'm not sure. I just tended to want to stay in this older time that always made me feel like an Assassin, not a person playing as an one who always has to come out. It's kind of like the movie Avatar. 

oh, I totally get where you're coming from, learning that this was all a flashback was super jarring when the first game came out and took EVERYONE by surprise.  That said, I think it's a really effective tool to make you feel like you are desmond, playing as Altair...not everyone likes it, but clearly people like it becuase each new iteration sells in excess of 7-8 million copies, whuch is nothing to scoff at.  Hell, Revelations is at I think just under 7 million sold and has only been out three and a half months!
