I'd say play ME2, instead of retrying ME1. It's also more relevant if you like it, because you can use your save if like for ME3. Based on certain opinions you've had on other games. I might think that fits you more. Not sure though!

Or just buy ME3. But, ME2 is extremely cheap.

I do tend to prefer more streamlined and fast paced games, that was my main issue with Mass Effect, I could spend ages a world which I didn't find very interesting.
