you are right...great that you said "US" and "living"...without that i would had like 30 vetos ^^

but i think we also can add Tarantino to that list...okay he is not totally original and you can see so many influences in his movies but Reservoir Dogs,Pulp Fiction,Kill Bill 1 & Inglorious Basterds are definatly one of the best movies from the 90s & 00s...i dont say he is better than Woody and hell no better than Scocese but he is definatly up there...

Of course I consider them "only" the two best living US directors. The only other one that could compete (now that Altman is not around anymore) would be Coppola. Then Lynch, Tarantino and - yes - Spielberg would follow. If we were speaking about all US directors: So many to consider, from Capra to Wilder, from Huston to Ford...there were dozens, hard to pick the best one.
