It is not because it allowed MS to get a foothold on NA and the 3rd party industry, thus still maintaining a global lead, compared to the utter massacre PS2 gave Gamecube and Xbox.

Early lead is important but is not everything, Wii destroyed the 360.

Still counts for something even when comparing 360 to Wii, if they launched on the same date who knows whether X360 would be able to overtake the Wii in the US and UK.
