I would totally support this. And I'd like to add that with the Wii U and Nintendo focusing more on download games I see lots of potential for more classic revivals. A 2D Metroid probably wouldn't sell that well as a full priced game (unlike Mario Bros. and classic Zelda which should be sold on disc) but why won't Nintendo release new 2D entries of its series' as downloads? I'm sure most people would be willing to spend $10 or more on a downloadable classic Metroid, Kid Icarus, Excite Bike, etc. Cheap to develop and lots of fun for the player.
