Final Fantasy IV, most everyone dies, or appear to die. The only on who actually dies is tellah. This is generally considered a bad plot device. (they did use this in FF13 with sahz) Much like Amnesia this series, has used repeatedly atleast 5,6,7,8,9 (sorta), 13 (fang).
Now I'm not saying I think FF13-2 is a literary masterpiece or whatever. I find, most every final fantasy in existance, has multiple wtf moments for me, this is no exception.

Also characters that shouldn't do battle well come to mind. Cait Stith, Quina, Tidus, Wakka, Rinoa, Lenna, Vaan, Penelo. Comes to mind as the more glaring people. It's not unique to this, game, JRPG's, WRPG's for that matter. Should they find a better device? Probably.
