Using your logic, I could mention several 3D Mario, Mario Kart and Monster Hunter games that were released in either November or December to disprove that these 3DS games were launched to combat the PSV. So what's really the difference here? |
The difference is, for your case, you need to have the date AND have all 3 fall on it the same timeframe (all topping the charts at the same time), in the same region (which hasn't happened before). Even just Mario and Mario Kart, I would be hard pressed to find that.
In my case, I need the date, and just 2 consoles launch at the same time, which has happened before (GC, Xbox).
For your case, and only the Mario/Mario Kart combo, let's go 2 gens back (up to SNES).
Region | SNES (Used Mario all-stars) | N64 (Mario 64) | GBA (Mario Advance) | GC (Sunshine) | DS | Wii (SMG, NSMB, SMG2) |
NA | MK: Sep '92 / M: Aug '93 | MK: Feb '97 / M: Sep '96 | MK: Aug '01 / M: Jun '01 | MK: '03 / M: '02 | MK: '05 / M: '06 |
MK: '08 / M: '07, '09, '10 |
Europe | MK: Jan '92 / M: Dec '93 | MK: Jun '97 / M: Mar '97 | MK: Sep '01 / M: Jun '01 | idem | idem | idem |
Japan | MK: Aug '92 / M: Jul '93 | MK: Dec '96 / M: Jun '96 |
MK: Jul '01 / M: Mar '01 |
idem | idem | idem |
The only case where it happens is on GBA. What could it have been countering? Anyway, it doesn't matter, I was just saying this was quite the move on Nintendo's part, something I hadn't really noticed before, probably because it didn't happen in this specific way (launching 3 megaton games at once) before.
