They are doing the same with the vita launch in America and Europe I believe. Although I do not think it will work as well.
@Salnax was talking about games being released. Game Gear games and other great e-shop games are on they're way as well!

MGS: 3D, RE: REVELATIONS, Tales of the Abyss, MandS at the London Olympics [3DS], PokePark 2, and Rhythm Heaven all release around the time the PSVITA Releases in America.

Then the last story, Luigis mansion, Xenoblade and Mario party on they're way after that as well. Maybe one of those before that?
