My new theory on the release year of Versus XIII and FFXV.

I don't think they will rename Versus XIII as they renewed the trademark on August 31, 2011: http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&entry=85411360

That's a shame, I think it will be far more successful if it was named XV. The 'Versus XIII' name is starting to go stale now, people are getting annoyed by the time it's taking to release. I think they should have a fresh start and give the game a fresh name. Reveal it this E3 as Final Fantasy XV with a new trailer, similar to the one they released last January, to be released in Q4 2013.
