Soleron said: Please do the same thing for any anime you like. When you put it in words, it will be about as simple as I said.
*sigh* changing the argument again. Not once have I said Anime feature great character development and this doesn't. My argument is that this doesn't feature great character development. Good character development? The movie Broken flowers, very subtle realistic development. Too much to type here.
I already said it wasn't the best technical animation, stop putting words in my mouth.'' Animation puts the rest of the industry today to shame. All over production value is very high. '' I'm sorry which one of you am I debating? I can't tell. I mean if you make two opposing points it's kinda hard to now which one is the real one. Even stylistically MLP doesn't put the rest of the industry to shame. EDIT: Should say the last sentence is my opinion. While I'm sure Soleron will in fact state that MLP is in fact the greatest stylistic achievement in the animation industry I would say there are much better examples and MLP is very derivative of plenty of prior works.
No, I gave THAT as an example of songs not for children. The links I gave are the show's music that I actually like.
Katy Perry the girl who had a cover/parody of her song on seasame street. But on MLP it's not for kids.... *sigh*. Her original work is more aimed at the teen audience, however it is then parodied/covered in a childish way.
MUSIC is instruments. Who listens to music for the lyrics lol? I only listen to the instrumental versions and BGM. The composer is on record as hating the lyrics he has been sent and the production directions he is forced into.
.... that isn't even worth talking about. So even though it's in the song, you don't like it so it doesn't count. Also you listen to the music that isn't in the show but altered... yea great. And I guess no one listens to music with lyrics.... despite instrumental music being far less popular........
I haven't changed my position. The fanart doesn't improve the show, right, but it does explain why "we" are into the show so much. Without the fanart I would not be watching every week.
Again I say that doesn't make the show itself better. If that's why you like it fine, but it doesn't make the show itself good. It can make you like the show but it doesn't magically improve the quality of the show.
"When I took the job, I braced myself for criticism, expecting many people–without even watching the show–to instantly label it girly, stupid, cheap, for babies or an evil corporate commercial. I encourage skeptics like this to watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic with an open mind. " - Lauren Faust, December 2010
You're twisting my words again. Of course adults are not the main target audience, and of course a goal of the show is to sell toys, but from the start she was just trying to make a good show and see what resulted from that - not a normal girls cartoon the likes of which she hates.'' Nor is it a childhood thing; I don't consider the show aimed at children and neither did its creator. '''' It is not targeted at young girls. I can link you to where each member of staff working on it states this. ''
Okay so your example of a quote (Also on wikipedia which when I did it meant it was invalid but hey whatever) Is her saying it won't be for babies.... no where does she mention adults in any way. Again I'm confused. Which one of you am I debating? The one who clearly stated the show isn't aimed at children or the one who now admits adults aren't the target audience. Everyone is trying to make a good show, you still have a target audience. I guess I will keep waiting for you to '' It is not targeted at young girls. I can link you to to where each member of staff states this'' Since you are yet to show one. Let alone EACH member of staff.
It is only deep if you have seen the portayal of her character from the first episode on. If I showed you a random clip of Toy Story towards the end would it make sense or be funny? And for sure it's not /that/ deep, not like a really good British drama. But it succeds more than the three shows you gave as examples of "deep" comedy yourself. Let me dig through their transcripts and find some incredibly shallow/slapstick humour. I bet I find more in 1 random episode than was in the episode "Sonic Rainboom".
It's not deep in any way, shape or form.
OK, agreed. But I was comparing the WORST portrayal of gamers to YOUR implications about bronies. Why do you feel so strongly about this?
Where is my portrayal of bronies? At what point have I said ''Oh all bronies are losers who live in a basement RAR!'' I never have because that isn't my point and I don't believe it to be true. Whereas you thought of gamers and immediately jumped at the ''OH they must be socially awkward geeks''
Do you not even understand what I am trying to say? I don't care whether you PERSONALLY like it or not. But surely you can see why others enjoy it, from what I have said, and respect that those people aren't weird or somehow doing the wrong thing?
My point has never been the show is bad. My point has been that it is not intended for, aimed at or adult in any way. My annoyance comes from Bronies such as yourself who try and act like it has animation that puts the rest of the industry to shame, features deep comedy and character development. There is no shame in liking something intended for children and I can understand why someone would like a childrens show in a childish way. However it is deeply shameful to try and pretend that a childrens show is something it isn't and to pretend you like it because of features it doesn't have.
My original post states that beyond making them feel like a child again I don't understand the adult appeal. Liking it in a childish way, fine. Pretending it's high art with amazing animation, fantastic character development and stories etc intended for adults.... well you are only fooling yourself.
