You have to balance the fact that they want more people to be able to finish the game, as Rol said, and you would be surprised what sorts of things people are unable to figure out on their own, which is not an "lol stupid people" comment, but rather that sometimes we all just have those brain farts that keep us from doing the simplest of things.

The advisory against going in the crater was an advisory against dying, i imagine, which can be quite frustrating

It is not about being ABLE to finish the game, it is WANTING to finish the game. Like I said, hints and help is fine, but dont ram it into people's face all the time when they didnt ask for it!

And on the dying in the crater part: If you actually enter the crater in OOT it actually takes 2 minutes or so (with a big counter in the MIDDLE of the screen) before you actually take any damage from running around in there, so it is not like it is a big risk. If you actually do die, you just warp back to the entrance of the crater anyway, so nothing lost. It was a pointless piece of information that ruins the whole point of this little bit of the game, which was to make you figure out you need to bomb walls in the overworld some places to find secrets. When you remove the other option (there is nothing else up there), there is nothing to figure out, so it is just taking all thinking out of the game.

It's like Nintendo doesnt just want you to succeed, but to always succeed on the first try!
