Wii's biggest success was in revolutionizing the industry. It brought games to the masses - women, older folks and casual players. Without Wii there would have been no Kinect or Move. There would be no fitness or dance titles which are now popular on all systems. And these days 360 and PS3 sales are bouyed in part by that very market that Wii created.
Otherwise Wii was a success on all levels, massive sales, massive profits, great library of titles - granted, mostly 1st party. However, Wii is aging poorly and has horrid support in it's final years, nor did it ever live up to the expectations placed on it. But success came early to the Wii and if not for limited supply from 2006-2009 it's sales would probably have eclipsed 100m already.
