Over the last four years, gaming has grown massively. This is a sum-up of what has happened over the last for years. Remember, all the data from earlier years isn't correct, but I think it is fairly close, anywan, keep in mind that these are far form 100 % numbers. There are only software numbers from the last three years in NA. If anything I write is incorrect (which it always is) please tell me.

PsP beats DS both in hardware and in software and is now pretty much tied up with the DS. Sonydomination for next gen?
X360 launches late, so not a lot of hardware sales, software sales are pretty big and 4:1 in attachment rate.
EA is the clearly biggest publisher, and sells tied with nr 2 and 3 combined. Sony sells more than Nintendo (as a publisher).
Around 66 % of the software sales on Nintendo systems are games made by Nintendo.
The overall attachment rate is about 3:1.
Ps: the GBA software numbers are weird.

Sum up: DS remains on top, has an attachment rate of totally 5:1 this year, which is higher than the 4,5:1 average. PSP sells a third of the hardware and a seventh of the software. The attachment rate is abysmal at less than 2:1. In hardware, Ps3 beats Ps2 this year with 50 %, but has bad attachment rate at 2,4:1 and sells a third as much software. Ps2 now has a fantastic attachment rate through all time, at almost 6:1. Wii + Ds does in hardware sell as much as Psp + Ps2 + Ps3 + X360 and in software they sell 2,5 times as much. This means, Nintendo machines have 2,5 times as high attachment rate as the others.
As a publisher, this is a bad year for Nintendo. They only have 40 % of the share! In 06 they had 48 %. In 05 they also had 40 %. The reason is that third party has managed to have a 44 % share of the Wii. Nintendo is now down to 56 %. Sure... Third party games do not sell on Wii.

Sum up:
DS outsells the PSP 2,5:1 in hardware and 2,3:1 in software. DS attachment rate is 3,7:1 while PSP has 4:1. Who said PSP gamers don't buy games?
Wii takes the year in hardware, but has no shot at beating the 360 in software.
Ps2 refuses to fall off, and beats its successor by 50 % in hardware and does more than double it in software. Its overall attachment rate now ends at only a little higher than 3:1 in lifetime.
Gaming industry has had a big boom. Hardware sales did from 04-05 increase with 1M 05-06 with 2 mill, and now it increases with 11M from 06.
Software sales are of course also increasing, but the attachment rate isn't increasing a lot, it's still on 5,5:1 while it was on 5,2:1 in 06.
Nintendo grabs the domiance as a developer! This year, it beats EA with 1/3. They now own 1/5 of the sales (as a publisher) while they had 1/7 in 06 and 1/9 in 05. 3rd party support is also comming up on Nintendo consoles. Now nintendo only owns 60 % of the software sales.
