ah another ps3 undertrack argument lol xbox almost 100k yoy yes they really back into the xenophobic corner

It would be doing better if it had games that Japanese people like to play.

Like FFXIII and FFXIII-2? Many titles are multiplatform in Japan but they just don't sell a lot on 360

FF13 was 1 year time delay exclusive ps3.

Not surprising that people already bought the ps3 at that time.

360 was doing well when it was buying all those exclusive jrpgs a couple years ago. They've stopped since, and now they don't really have anything. On top of that, all the games that 360 had timed exclusive, were then released on ps3 with all sorts of additional content. Really, all the multiplat games that are in Japan, are made better on teh ps3.

MS stopped caring, then so did gamers.

other way around.

It sold well with the hardcore.

It's a hard market for a product in which you can import from America for cheaper, but is more expensive than the other consoles (on average) and really only has jrpgs and western games. Not forgetting that Japanese tend to prefer systems where multipurpose is king and 360 just doesn't have a lot of that. It's also missing just a lot of basic features that Japanese are already used to. No integrated wireless for years, battery operated large controllers, no web browsing.

Japanese play more than just jrpgs, and do more on their system than just play games. There's no reason to buy an already expensive system in a store when virtually everything does more, and costs less. 360 is even considered a hardcore gamer's console in Japan.

None of that explains the first 18 months to 2 years of the 360 in Japan.  The last sentence of the first paragraph is garbage, no offense.

@bolded You mean going directly up against the ps2, which japanese devs still made games for well into the ps3s life, for triple the price? Combine that with MS having a very non-existant attempt at wooing any kind of Japanese gamer with the original xbox. You are left with a brand that showed typically no care, going up against a system that was notebook thin with 100x the games, and roughly had the same functions.

What's wrong with the sentence? These were real complaints! Or at least they are anecdotal complaints that people I know from Japan said. Do you mean to say that those features don't fit with the first 18 months to 2 years? Well, I would agree, if we were only talking about consoles and not the many things Japanese people were already used to, as in very limited use of batteries, web browsing on virtually every electronic, wireless everything.

You really have to consider how much effort they put into luring the Japanese market. All they got were some jrpgs. They didn't even try. Look at the converse, with ps3 in America, and you can get much the same outlook. MS simply doesn't have the foundations present to even begin to compete with another console in Japan...much like ps3 is in America. Sony has no really good shooter capable of competing with Halo. They don't have nearly anything amped enough to reach our audience, and the things they do invest in are really just the tip of the iceberg. They are very much mirrors of each other.
