first off sony not nintendo not microsoft MADE the 199.99 price point "mass market" for the ps2. SONYS PS2 sold over 120million (and is still selling). most of those sells are from 199.99 and under. the playstation was the first console to sell over 100 million and do it again on the ps2. nintendo NEVER EVER sold 100 million cept gameboy which means sony set the standard not nintendo.
second release at 600 dollars was a gamble and i will admit they lost it. but its a bigger picture with selling blu-ray movies. sony has WON the movie war that microsoft back HD-dvd has LOST ps3 is on a upward selling spree and 360 is losing ground. and mass market price is different for every product. sony thought having blu-ray and ps3 at 600 was ok with them and the people and it wasnt. so im saying they are looking for a mass market price for the ps3. the I-Phone was 600 dollars and sold millions its first week and people was ok for paying for that.
If you learned how to read you can notice that that was what i was talking about. if wii is mass market price then my car was WAY OVER PRICED. i think (and i think everyone will aggree with me) we would all pay a little more for a ps3 then a wii because it does WAY more. If sony wanted to match nintedo then the ps3 would be 249.99 and they would lose on 150 bucks on each system sold and thats way less then they lost before in 2006 when the system dropped. obviously thats NOT their goal. look at toshbia HD DVD players were being sold for 99 bucks!!!!why you ask? because they HAD TO BE.If sony much more microsoft (who is rich as hell) wanted, no... needed to be at 250 they would be.
and before you point out spelling mistakes make sure you skip a space
