Police don't prevent murders, they just go find out who did it...whereas a well armed citizens can actually prevent the crime as you said in your story. 

Indeed.  Like he said to me, you'd have to be a fool to commit a crime in most of those towns.  And those towns also have the highest ownership of guns, with the lowest crime rates.  Because it is more like those scandanavian countries.  Everyone is basically the same ethnicity and like-minded.  I wish it wasn't true, but too many people in different ethnicity groups just don't seem to like eachother :p 

And to what you said, 93% of the crimes are committed by thugs using illegal guns any way, so you'd only be disarming the honest folk.
