I think the problem here is that Nintendo was confident about their few releases. Mario Sport Mix has the Mario brand name and were expecting big sales, maybe something between 5-6M WW. Wii Play Motion was a succesor of a game that sold almost 30M. The game of Cases of whatever (new ip iirc) was a flop, like Flingsmash last year. Plus some third party games like MW3, Raymans Origin, Mario and Sonic and Just Dance 3; and some first like Zelda and Kirby.

I can't blame exactly the third partys. They always were and will be plus to buy a Nintendo console, but not the first party, which are the main reason. During 2009, they release Wii Sports Resorts in summer, Wii Fit Plus in fall and NSMBWii at holidays with a price cut and sell a lot.

This year, the wanted to do something like that with a redesign, and some deals like the new color and bundles. Problem? At least to me, the crowd that bought those games in 2009 were not the same that bought the games in 2010. Zelda and Kirby are more of the kind of SMG2, M:OM, Epic Mickey, GoldenEye and DKCR. But 2 games and the end of the year is not enough. For the other crwod? Only Just Dance 3.

We can't expect to have the same amount of games like last year and maybe they are making the ones for a succesful Wii U launch, but cannot deny this year Wii was a wasteland.
