Such discounts are quite normal in Japan. (I know a place that sells Ridge Racer for 2899 Yen. :))
I've never ever bought a game at the SRP here in Japan.
The last day I got Mario Kart 7 on release day at Yamada Denki for 3840 Yen instead of 4800 Yen. That's 960 Yen off the regular price!
Try going to big department stores with toy sections. Those sell games at the SRP most of the time. The last day I went to Fuji Grand and they still has New Super Mario Bros (DS) for the original 4800 Yen price. :P
