Obviously demand is for the WiFi model and with SONY giving 100 hours 3G to those who purchased the first 500k 3G versions, it is easy to assume they overshipped the version the consumers did not want, hence the reason why the initial shipment did not sellout. We will need to wait for word about a new shipment of just WiFi models to be absolutely sure. |
Exactly. I wouldn't be surprised if this week saw the sellout of 95%-100% of the Wi-Fi model. We'll have to wait til Sony adjusts their manufactoring to push out much more Wi-Fi models than 3G models. Of course, you also have the fact that Vita actually has competition upon its release, and not just from last gen handhelds. Nintendo dropped the price of the 3DS by $80 and there have been 3 games that just recently launched on it that appeal greatly to Japan (2 Mario games and a MH game). While I was expecting a little over 100K this week, these numbers still don't surprise me. I think 2012 will be much kinder to the Vita in Japan, as it will probably see a small pricecut near the end of the year, as well as have more games that appeal to Japanese gamers.
