3DS first weeks disagree with you.

And the Apple TV didn't take off like gangbusters either. It's doing moderately well now because they improved the device via software, much like the 3DS is doing better because Nintendo dropped the price to something more reasonable.

People buy products that are good and/or offer good value. They tend to stay away from products that are bad. It doesn't matter whether that product is from Apple, Sony, Nintendo, or Google. There are blind fanboys of EVERY tech company but they are a small portion of the regular (non-fanboy) population. Apple sells a lot of iPads because it's a bloody good product and right now, is the best product in its class by a country mile.
