No you spend less money. Also demographic comes into play. How well do you think alchemist of arland or heavy rain would do on 360? More then the porting cost? Even if so, if that money was spent on the next game it could ultimatelly gain you more money since you make so little from the 360 port. Also if you do make your game better it will give it more word of the mouth value which will help it sell more especially if you are on an arvertisement budget. And it's not wether the game pushes the limits of the platform it's what would you have to compremise to make it multiplatform, you might have to push back the date or reduce the amount of content or make the load time slower because you don't have the time and money to optimize it for both. It get's complicated fast. Also Versus isn't going to go to the 360, if you need a quick and easy reason it's because it would delay it significantly and frankly I'm not sure it's possible without dumbing down the game. Also incentives from the console maker, they can handle alot of your advertisement or give you help to optimize your game or in some cases straight up cash. |
where are you getting this from. Im sure heavy rain would do pretty good on the 360 and small budget rpgs like arland would probably do around the same numbers as they did ont the ps3 in america and europe as games like eternal sonata and star ocean have sold as well and sometime better on the 360. And what makes you think versus 13 would be dumbed down because of 360 development. And even if it was it would be because of the lack of skill on the developers end not the systems fault. Also developing for two platforms does not double costs or anything like that and alot of the stuff you said like not having time to optimize it for 2 consoles really makes no sense as a company would work these things out ahead of time before thigns got to that.
