EA: Free-to-play can be "as profitable as a console game""The free-to-play group inside of EA Games is growing extremely fast - we've got 17 million users, 4-5 services stood up right now." Free gaming has never been bigger, and it's likely to grow more as large publishers like EA take interest. I think nintendo should embrace this hype and let 3rd parties like Facebook Valve and EA create their own channels on the Wii U. Nintendo should believe in their own power to make quality games and should see these free to play models more like an extra reason why people buy a Wii U.
It is assumed that Nintendo always has made money on their sold hardware (besides the 3ds after the pricedrop, I'm not sure they still make a profit there). Therefore every concoles sold is a profit for Nintendo and another household won for the Wii U install base.
Furthermore Nintendo would still be the biggest influencer on the console and therefore have a mayor competative advantage compaired the Facebooks or EA's in this world. Other parties will only have a Channel where they can do their activities where Nintendo can do them system wide, with multible channels.
Also Nintendo could demand a fee for giving EA, Steam or Facebook acces to their divices. Systems like a certain percentage of profit or download fee would be logic. For instance if I want to play farmville on my wiiu and I buy some points from zygna and 5% of that money goes to Nintendo.
