If a little tweaking of the Android source was all that was required, I would think official Android software updates would not be such a rare thing. But for an award like "Best Manufacturer", they're probably going off of things like build quality, product support, maybe reliability and customer satisfaction. I was always under the impression that updates were only a rare thing to Samsung customers.
