There'll always be cheaters online. Fortunately, yesterday I did about 10 clean races with random people and it was pretty great. Granted, I won about 6 of them (basically an extremely lightweight car + lots of coins + proper use of MT and Slide-Boost = pwnage unless you get blue shelled & lightning constantly), but still even those I didn't win were pretty competitive.
5 out of the 8 racers were from Japan though. I hardly have any troubles when playing with japanese gamers online.
