Your observation is certainly correct, but it was probably interpolated into the Jesus-story. I doubt very much that he didn't exist at all. One thing though - there is no proof for his birth - which there should be considering the king was apparantly executing babies at that time yet this didn't happen according history. My guess is that the story of Krishna's birth was used by the early creators of Christianity.
The specific reason why I think he did exist are the references to him in eastern traditions. Those cultures care not for western history, yet there are several independent references to him.
One of the most fascinating (and important!) topics imho.
