FF does make more sense for a compact car. All compact cars on the market today are FF drive cars. Even Mercedes Benz's A-Class is FF and before that I think they never made a FF drive car. Mercedes Benz had a 111 year history of making FR cars before they introduced the A-Class so if they can't make a competitive FR in todays market I doubt anyone else can. Also I think the Dodge Dart is a huge upgrade over the car it replaces the Dodge Caliber and an even better upgrade of the car before that the Dodge Neon which for the most part was a big joke. |
Large volume of sales =/= good car. FF is cheap to produce, and in the case of Mercedes A and B Class it's safer (Small cars score bad for head on collisions, having more stuff in the front improves safety).....
Wait, the Dode Dart is the replacement for the Calibur? That makes sence to make it an FF car (it's an economy car, not a sports car), but it's odd they took the name from their old sports car brand. Are they making a Chevy with the same platform too, or is Chevy sticking with the Cruze?
If this a whole new car, then my initial arguement still holds. If your going to make a crappy car, don't ruin the name of a traditional rear wheel drive car.
Also, as a side note, Smart is oned by Mercedes, so the smallest Benz is still Rear Wheel Drive (A Smart FourTwo is Mid Engined, Rear Wheel Drive...seriously).
